Two sources have confirmed that beloved Shamrock football coach Rich Scanlon has been hired by Donahue Catholic as its Director of Athletics, Director of Formation, and Physical Education Instructor. Last week Coach Scanlon was honored by the Florida Christian Association of Private and Parochial Schools football league as its 2013 Coach of the Year after leading the Shamrocks to the state championship game.
The position at the school opened up when Mr. John Audino announced his resignation and his intent to enter the seminary. While the prospect of losing Coach Audino was quite disappointing, the news that such a stellar leader has been hired makes it hard to doubt that God works these things out in wonderful ways we couldn’t imagine.
At the FCAPPS All-State award banquet, the following Shamrocks were honored: Defensive Back – Luke Scheck, Split End – Matt Houde, Sportsmanship Award – Marco Vega, and Coach of the Year – Rich Scanlon. The Ave Herald has more information here.
